Phil and I had a great dinner. I stumbled a few times on inappropriateness, but I really enjoyed his company.

Phil was a self-made man. He was born into a relatively poor family, and grew up with a single, alcoholic mother and two younger sisters. When he came out as gay, his mother hit him and threw him out of their home.

When I came out, my father punched me in the face. My mother kicked him out instead.

I had just sipped the last of the wine bottle, and we were both completely finished with dinner.

‘It’s still a bit early. Did you by any chance want to hang out together a little longer?’ he asked, timidly.

‘Definitely,’ I said. ‘What did you have in mind?’

‘Well, I have a really big room upstairs. I could order us something to drink, we could watch some TV. Did I mention the room has a Jacuzzi?’

‘That sounds lovely, Phil.’

It really did.

‘Obviously, I am aware this was not part of our original agreement, but don’t worry, you’ll definitely be—’

‘Let’s just go,’ I interrupted. ‘It’ll be nice to relax a little.’

We both got up, and he started walking in front of me to make way. I brushed my hand against his huge back. I wanted to let him know I was actually having a good time.
